Dear Daughter

Dear daughter, when you find yourself excluded from a group my wish for you is that you shrug your shoulders, walk away and find the people that support, embrace and jump into your ‘silly.’ Don’t be in a rush to be ‘cool’ hold onto the innocence and the fun of pretend play and giggles.

Dear daughter, use your voice for good. Know that the best thing you can do is spread kindness. Don’t get swept into the crowd. Don’t feed your own ego by making others small. Be so secure in who you are that you tell others to check in on themselves instead of berating others. Be stern in the face of cruelty. Be an ally to the underdog.

Dear daughter, you don’t need to find a ‘crush.’ Find yourself. Put yourself on a pedestal before you put another there. Be so in love with who you are you don’t have space yet to prioritize another. Know that you are wholly valuable and worthy on your own. Don’t chase validation in someone else’s opinion of you.

Dear daughter, blaze your own path. Be assertive. Be dominant. Be aggressive. Be loud. Be obnoxious. Be insufferable. Be too much. Be unconquerable. Be ridiculous. Create chaos.

Dear daughter, should you at any point find yourself in a situation you no longer want to be in, leave it. Walk away, you are never too far in, you owe nothing to anyone. Even after a million “yeses” the instant you feel yourself wanting to say no. Say it. Leave and have no guilt, no shame.

Dear daughter, there is nothing you can do that will make me love you less. There is nothing you can do that I will shame you for. There is nothing you can do that I won’t understand. I will never rush you or require an explanation. I support that you made the decisions you could based on your own judgement.

Dear daughter, reject the norm. Don’t let anyone put you in a box. Literally or figuratively. Escape. Spend your life escaping monotony. Never work a 9-5. Never be boring or bored.

Dear daughter, the truth is there’s no such thing as normal. There is no such thing as success. There is only freedom. Freedom to embrace your truth. Freedom to embrace your being. Freedom to go your own way. Freedom to roam. Freedom to question. Freedom to be.

Dear daughter, find your freedom.
